I've been meaning to plan this herb garden since last September. Well, I finally got around to buying soil and planting the seeds. I can't wait to see if anything actually grows. I'm definitely an amateur at urban gardening, so my expectations are pretty low:)

Another Leaf Collage

Saturday evening experiments
My obsession with embroidery continues.

I've been meaning to try stitching on leaves for a long time. I finally did today! I used a reverse applique technique with a leaf. I am pleased with the way it looks. The picture above is a collage of of the leaves I stitched on plus a security envelope pattern. They are so fragile and precious. Anyways, this is just the beginning of an idea. I'm not sure where it will go. I'm wondering if they will last at all...I will press them for a while and make sure they completely dry out.

Potato Medley Color Inspiration

I bought this potato medley from Trader Joes to make potato wedges in the oven. They turned out soooo good, and they were so easy to make.
1. You basically chop the potatoes however you like
2. Make a spice concoction with whatever you have around.
3. sprinkle spices and olive oil on the potatoes.
4. Get your hands in there and mix it all up.
5. Let it bake for 30-45 min.
This is definitely a recession proof recipe.
When I cut into the purple potatos, I was so delighted. I've never seen a purple potato before. So I took a couple shots with my camera. I love getting random color inspiration.

Yes, I'll Have Dessert Please!
I was inspired by this articalto buy some thrift store porcelain and decorate it.
First I made a stensil out of masking tape. Basically I printed my design, taped it over several rows of tape and cut it out with an exacto knife. I would recommend putting the tape down in both vertical and horizontal directions. This will make it more sturdy when you try to peel it up. I had some close calls with the letters falling apart when peeling them up because I only had tape going in one direction.

The porcelan pens work pretty much like regular paint pens. I don't really like the way you can tell that you are drawing with a market because there is a dot at the end of each stroke where more ink was let out. Also the pebeo brand i have is not the highest of quality. I opened up on the markers, shook it and the nib went flying out. Basically the pen broke before I could even use it. I would like to experiment with using brushes and the paint in the little bottles.
At first I was using a ruler to try to get the lines straight. But the ruler ended up smudging the paint so I did everything free hand. It's more loose which is not a bad thing, just not what I was originally going for. This project didn't turn out perfect, but I think it is a good start into a new craft. I'm keeping an eye out for thrift store porcelain from now on.

Waterfalls
Oh me, oh my...there is a lot on my mind. Blogging is one of the last things I should be doing, but oh well. Here we go. I wanted to share some of my Memorial Day weekend with you.
This is Silver Falls Park. We woke up at the crack of dawn to hike 8.5 mi along a gorgeous river and a series of incredible waterfalls. We tried to get there before the trails got to crowded, which they did around 11am. There is a lot of beauty in Oregon. I enjoyed looking at all the different plants growing along the trail. I should have grabbed some leaves and scanned them. And the water was so crystal clear. I was tempted to get in, but it was really too cold for that. Blogging about wateralls is making me think about that TLC song waterfalls. Haha... its been forever since I've heard that song. Every time I go hiking, I always think about how awesome it is to be a part of nature and how I should do it more often so if you have any recommendations send them my way.

Internet music collaboration

This is very cool! I've been playing around with it for 15 minutes and the combinations are endless and surprisingly enough they all seem to fit together. It's a nice way to wind down from work.

I make stuff because I get sad if I don't.

I'm loving Will Bryant's screen printed goodness and his honest tagline. I like the way he is layering pattern and typography together. It's something I want to try more of in my work. You should check out more handmade stuff in willbryant's shop. Go now!
